We all enjoyed a great turn out for this years taster session and bbq. All our prospective new novices (including a few GUSA council members) got a turn on the erg, learnt technique with the oars and had a quick outing in an 8. Shout out to the very patient coxes and our excellent chefs.
Once everyone had just about recovered from Freshers’ week madness either being a fresher or running around in their GUBC t shirts excellently designed by Heather Walker getting newbies on board we had our first social of Girls and Boys nights in followed by Viper. There were a lot of homemade vests on the boys and moustaches painted on the girls so a strong effort all round.
Our second social this year was a new one for GUBC of a mums and dads pub crawl. Lots of senior-novice bonding going on and fun had by all.
Last but not least (of course)
The novices have had their first couple of circuits and erg sessions and are all looking very good and working hard so far! The weekend of water sessions is looking to be incredibly popular again and everyone will be out really getting to grips with it all.
Alongside the madness of recruiting new novices and enjoying being back at uni both senior squads have hit the ground running with training in 8s for British Championships on 18th and 19th of October and we look forward to seeing how they’ll perform.
